  • Fellow, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), elected for contributions in education and leadership in the profession. “Dr. Amin is recognized for contributions in education and leadership in the profession. Specific accomplishments include: Dr. Amin has led national initiatives to enhance security, resilience and efficiency of our nation’s critical infrastructure. At EPRI, he pioneered RD&D in smart grids and led the development of over 24 technologies.  At Minnesota, he leads three graduate programs at the Technological Leadership Institute; he founded the Master of Science in Security Technologies program and leads the Master of Science in Management of Technology program.  He served ASME as chair of energy security team for ASME’s CAPI, received recognition for services as a leader of CAPI’s helping US formulate strategies to protect against future attacks and has given 7 congressional briefings for ASME.” June 2011

  • 2015-2016 Outstanding Community Partnership Award, Hubert H. Humphrey Fellows, UofM Law School and the Human Rights Center, for having had the “highest impact on the HHH Fellows over the last year. Dr. Amin began meeting with the Humphrey Fellows beginning in the fall of 2015, leading sessions where they would discuss everything from human rights and security, to smart grids and smart cities (while enhancing civil engagement, human rights and civil liberties) to leadership and innovation. Through his engineering and complex dynamical systems background lens, he has a creative way of taking on the most persisting challenges of our world, the ‘hard & impossible problems’ and an ability to think outside of the box when it comes to human rights. He shared from his heart and pushed the Fellows to think about things in a different way.” The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program brings accomplished mid-career leaders and professionals from about 50 developing nations and emerging democracies to the United States for a year of professional development, related academic study and cultural exchange.
